Wipro to manage IT operations for Bangladesh telecom Grameenphone

The partnership is expected to help expand its business operations and improve its presence in the country.

In an announcement on Wednesday, August 16, Software and technology giant Wipro Limited stated that it has entered into a five-year agreement to manage the IT infrastructure and applications managed services for leading Bangladeshi telecom operator Grameenphone (GP).

The largest mobile telecommunications operator in Bangladesh, Grameenphone Ltd’s majority equity is owned by Telenor Group, one of the world’s leading mobile operators.

As per the contract, the leading global information technology, consulting, and business process services organisation would be managing the entire IT landscape for GP, utilising Wipro HOLMES, and would also own its end-to-end application development and management, infrastructure support and maintenance, and back office processes.

While the technology major is also going to be building a new delivery centre in the country, the partnership is expected to help Wipro further its goal of exploring possible business opportunities in Bangladesh and localising and expanding its presence in it.

Michael Foley, Chief Executive Officer, Grameenphone Limited, stated that the company had conducted a thorough evaluation process before zeroing down on its choice, and believes that a world class organization like Wipro would be successfully able to provide up-to-the-standard managed services for Grameenphone and deliver the desired business results.

Anil K Jain, Senior Vice President & Global Head – Communications Business Unit, Wipro Limited, stated that being the strategic partner for Grameenphone would enable the company to properly utilise its domain expertise and industry leading AI platform, Wipro HOLMES, to bring on the kind of business impact that is needed, and in the process, further reinforce its relationship with Telenor, a strategic partner of the organisation.
