Top 6 phones launched at the 2017 Mobile World Congress

Find out which hi-tech beauties grabbed the most eyeballs at the recently concluded MWC. By Satyaki Sarkar

A whole host of powerful smartphones were launched at theMobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Several brands showcased their flagship models and latest launches, while a very familiar brand took a step back into the spotlight. Here are the phones that grabbed the most attention.


1. Sony Xperia XZ Premium
Probably the only phone at the event to be equipped with a Snapdragon 835 chip, the Xperia XZ Premium is loaded with an incredibly impressive array of features and specifications. Featuring a 5.5-inch 4K HDR display with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels, the phone comes with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 256GB. The 19-megapixel rear Motion Eye camera can shoot videos at a staggering 960 frames per second, and also start preemptively capturing images before the shutter button is pressed. There’s also a 13-megapixel front camera, and a 3,230mAh battery. The phone has a feature that lets it learn your preferences from your usage and autonomously adjust the phone settings to better suit you. Now that’s a smart phone!

2. BlackBerry KeyOne
Evoking a whole lot of nostalgia,BlackBerry unveiled the KeyOne in an effort to catch up in the smartphone market. There’s the trademark 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels at a PPI of 433 pixels per inch. The phone also comes with a handy QWERTY keyboard that lets you assign your favourite apps to its keys. The KeyOne is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and runs on Android 7.1, with BlackBerry Hub preloaded into the phone. With 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, the phone is expandable up to a massive 2TB, and runs on a 3505mAh non-removable battery. There’s also a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 8-megapixel front camera to sweeten the deal.

3. LG G6
The best part about the LG G6 is its large 5.7-inch quad HD resolution display that has a resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels and 564 PPI. Running on Android 7.0, the phone has 4GB of RAM, along with 32GB internal memory that is expandable up to 256GB. It also sports a 13 MP dual primary camera and a 5 MP front camera, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor. The G6 is powered by a 3,300 mAh battery and is equipped with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support as well.

4. MotoG5 Plus
Having established itself in the market for itshigh-quality affordable smartphones, Motorola adds to its legacy with the Moto G5 Plus. With an aluminium body, the G5 Plus has a 1080 pixel 5.2-inch full-HD display and runs on a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The phone has 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB, along with a 13-megapixel primary camera with phase-detection and autofocus, and a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens front camera. Running on Android 7.0 Nougat, the G5 Plus is powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery.

5. Huawei P10P10 Plus
Staying true to its metal-and-glass construction, the Huawei P10 Plus also features a ‘hyper diamond-cut’ texture on the back that greatly improves grip and durability. The 5.50-inch touchscreen display has a resolution of 1440 by 2560 pixels, and the phone runs on an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor. Packing 4GB of RAM, the P10 Plus has 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB. Winning on the camera front, the Huawei P10 Plus is equipped with a 20-megapixel primary camera with dual lens, and a 12-megapixel front camera equipped with 3D mapping for high-quality pictures. Running on Android 7.0, the Huawei P10 Plus is powered by a 3750mAh non-removable battery with fast charging capabilities.

6. Nokia 3310
Last but not the least, everyone’s favourite phone from yesteryears, the Nokia 3310 was revamped and relaunched by the Finnish brand. While most of its nostalgic features have been retained, including its rugged build and reliable battery life, the phone has had a few tweaks and updates too. The new 3310 features a colour display, 16MB internal memory expandable up to 32GB, a 2MP primary camera, and comes in a variety of colour options including Warm Red, Dark Blue, Yellow, and Grey. The phone also comes preloaded with the Snake game that everyone was so fond of in the original.
