The new unit will work on product innovation through AI and robotics.
In a bid to bolster its global and domestic appliances business, Japanese electronics major Panasonic has announced it will start an R&D centre in partnership with Tata Elxsi, an integrated design and technology services provider, in Bangalore.
Panasonics R&D establishment in India will now have two centres. The Design Division, would be based at the company’s Jhajjar centre, and will work on product design, factory engineering, and QC for their products like refrigerators and air-conditioners. The Bangalore centre will house the Offshore Development Division, which will work on developing technologies like robotics and AI that would be used in its domestic and global markets.
“The launch of the R&D centre in Bangalore aims to grow Panasonic’s business in the ISAMEA (India, South Asia, Middle East and Africa) region with a medium and long-term strategic view,” said President of Appliances Company and Senior MD, Panasonic Corporation, Tetsuro Homma, in a PTI report. “The new R&D Centre will accelerate Panasonic product innovations in newer categories and will help the appliances industry in its growth.”
Through this new centre Panasonic is aggressively focusing on driving AI-based R&D in India. The idea is to improve utility and performance of household appliances and work assist systems through the data gathered on the customer’s daily use patterns and habits. Through the partnership, Japanese company plans to offer a comprehensive solution for home appliances, right from design to sales.
“Panasonic India, with its Japanese reputation of technology and innovation, is an important partnership for us, and together with technologies like IoT (Internet of Things), we aim to drive the next generation of home appliances from India to the global market,” said Tata Elxsi CEO and MD Madhukar Dev in a PTI report.
