Evibe.in is a start-up co-founded by B Anjaneyulu Reddy and his wife, Swathi Bavanaka that removes irksome bargaining and direct dealing with vendors from the picture by acting as an online agent providing transparent prices and all-inclusive details. Catering to the Bangalore market, Evibe lets you virtually plan your party by showcasing the best vendors across town.
The idea for the website came about when Anjaneyulu and Swathi were trying to plan their wedding online. “We were looking for vendors to help plan our wedding and find out the costs, but we came up with nothing,” says Anjaneyulu. The couple realised there was a gap in the market and decided it might be a lucrative idea to fill it.
Making it work
“Swathi and I were both enthusiastic about entrepreneurship and technology,” says Anjaneyulu. “I had completed my engineeringfrom BITS Pilani and worked with a start-up called Knolskape Solutions while Swathi had done her Masters in Computer Science from the University of Memphis, US. But when you want to build a business model, there are two additional requirements—money and time.” So Anjaneyulu quit his job to work full-time on Evibe. He started speaking to vendors—party halls, restaurant spaces, decorators, entertainers, caterers, photographers, etc—and finally launched an alpha version of the site in 2014. “We had our first paying customer within 24 hours!” he says.
Whether you’re looking to host a party in an open-air pool side space, hold a meeting in a board room, or organise your child’sbirthday, Evibe aims to be a one-stop solution to all your event-related needs. The site lists current party trends, verified vendor listings with their previous work and competitive pricing information, and customer reviews. You can then select what suits your budget and vision, all from the convenience of your home.
The services are absolutely free for customers, and Evibe charges their vendors for bookings done through them. A few paid services for customers are in the pipeline and are part of their expansion plans.
The couple initially started Evibe with their own savings and have gone on to secure funding from Hyderabad Angels, Commonfloor co-founders LalitMangal and VikasMalpani, Flipkart VP Gaurav Bhalotia, and LV Prasad & Co from BITS Alumni. Initially, they didn’t spend any money on marketing activities and relied on organic growth. It’s helped that Evibe bagged a Hot 100: Race to Grace 2015 award, made it to the TiE – The Indus Entrepreneurs (Bangalore chapter) list of top 30 high potential tech start-ups across India, bagged a Hot 100 Award, and now a spot in NASSCOM’s 10,000 Start-ups initiative.
“I believe our focus on execution, lean methodologies, validating ideas before building and the transparency we created in the market has helped us reach and go beyond our goals,” says Anjaneyulu.
Looking to the future
With over 1500+ events booked so far and a quarterly growth of 35 per cent, Anjaneyulu now plans to expand Evibe to 5+ occasion verticals and 2+ cities by the end of this year. “Our future plans are to arrange for a candlelight experience for couples, bachelors’ parties, house parties (complete with drinks), housewarming services, engagement and pre-wedding events created as per the customer’s preference,” he says.
Transparent pricing and customer satisfaction are Evibe’s USP, apart from being the one-stop platform for anything celebratory in Bangalore. “We are able to deliver the best because our vendors trust us,” says Anjaneyulu. “Initially this was a big challenge as very few people are willing to trust a 24-year-old who promises to bring them bookings,” he laughs. “Now, we can arrange a birthday party in a few minutes!”
