This is Volkswagen’s first India-specific car—a sub-compact sedan targeted at the Indian market. Based on the Polo hatchback, the Ameo has a 1.2L mpi engine, 1198cc, 74bhp petrol motor with 5400 rpm, and it accelerates smoothly with the gearbox and light clutch making driving easy. It is the most affordable offering from Volkswagen, and marks Volkswagen’s foray into the competitive sub-four meter segment. Currently available only with the petrol engine, the diesel version will be coming out soon.
Price: From Rs 5.14 lakh to Rs 7.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Datsun recently launched their entry-level car, which is available in five variants—D, A, T, (O) and S. The stylish hatchback’s engine is an 800cc petrol motor that develops 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. The engine has a 5-speed gearbox, though an automatic version will be launching in the future. With an i-SAT (Intelligent Spark Automated Technology) engine that automatically adjusts spark timing in response to fuel quality and power requirement, Redi-GO is able to give a mileage of 25.17kmpl.
Price: From Rs 2.39 lakh to Rs 3.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Jaguar Land Rover Discovery Sport petrol
Jaguar has launched a petrol engine variant of their Discovery Sport SUV. With a 240hp 2.0 litre turbo petrol unit that churns out a maximum of 237bhp, it has a peak torque of 340Nm. It has a nine-speed automatic gearbox, and the Land Rover’s Terrain Response 4WD system. Also on offer is a rear-view camera, a panoramic sunroof, stylish LED tail lamps, Adaptive Xenon Headlamps, premium, comfortable upholstery, and multiple USB charging points. There’s also a seven-seat configuration option.
Price: Rs 56.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
BMW 5 Series Petrol
BMW has come out with the petrol variant of the 5 Series in India, the BMW 520i. The petrol version doesn’t have any changes in the design, but you can choose from three different upholstery colours. Other features include electrical glass sunroof, multi-functional steering wheel wrapped in sport leather, ambient light with selectable mood lights, wooden panels, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seat, and floor mats in velour among others. The BMW 520i is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine that churns out 181bhp and a peak torque of 270Nm. The car can go from 0-100 kmph in 7.9 seconds thanks to BMW’s 8-Speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission.
