Angel investor Sanjay Mehta tells us about the five luxury car brands he’d like to own.
“This brand is luxury personified. You don’t want to drive a Rolls-Royce, you want to driven in one—it’s a style statement like no other. Everyone who is anyone wants a Rolls-Royce. But they have strict conditions. They check out your background and earnings to see if you can buy and maintain one of their luxury cars. And only if you check all their boxes will they let you buy one.”
“The Aston Martin is synonymous with James Bond, that debonair secret agent. And they created a special edition, bespoke coupé for Spectre. The brand has a huge line up available in India, and their latest, the Vulcan, is a sight to behold. Earlier, the Aston Martin was a gentleman’s car, not it’s more of a super car.”
“This is combination of luxury plus sporty. A Bentley is a car you want to drive, not hand over to your driver. Amitabh Bachchan once was crazy over Bentleys. The cars are high on style and even though it’s the 21st century, the newer model still harken back to the old school style with the big logo, grill and headlamps. Though they still weigh a tonne, they’re much quicker thanks to the aerodynamics.”
“They are the specialists in super cars. The emphasis isn’t on style, but on aerodynamics. They’re more for people to are focussed on driving on tracks and would like to take their super car home. It’s for those who love speed, and hearing the engine roar.”
“From sports cars to sports SUVs, Porsche has the entire gamut. The Porsche 911 is a hot buy right now and the brand has undertaken a lot of technical changes. This is the car for those who enjoy drives around cities and the countryside. And then there’s the luxurious Panamera four-door sedan. Porsche has shown how to coolly mix luxury with sporty.”
