Gearing up for the next wave of transformation at CIO Crown 2017

The 5th edition of CIO Crown was a unique opportunity for leading ICT leaders and thinkers to collaborate, explore and discover digital business forces and new technologies driving business transformation. 

CIO Crown 2017 saw the country’s most eminent CIOs, CTOs and corporate technology professionals come together with leading industry brands for engaging debates and interactions on leading innovations in key sectors including Big Data, Digital, SMAC, Data Centres and Mission Critical Infrastructure, Cloud Solutions, Cyber Security and Information Protection, Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence, and more! The conference was also an opportunity for CIOs to engage with their peers to exchange ideas and gather knowledge to contribute to their business.

Revolving around the theme of ‘Age of the CIO: Next Wave of Transformation in a Digital Business World’, the conference spanned two days, August 18 and 19, 2017. It was held at Novotel Imagica near Mumbai, with presenting partner Netmagic (An NTT Communications Company), and KPMG as knowledge partner.

The first day started with a welcome note and a talk on ‘The Future of Digital Landscape’ by Anoop Mathur, President, CORE Media, which was followed by a session on ‘Age of the CIO: Next Wave of Transformation in a Digital Business World’ by Kunal Pande, Partner, KPMG. Productivity Guru Dr Nitin Paranjape was next with part one of his helpful ‘Top 10 #CXO Efficiency Best Practices’. Then came a discussion on the various benefits of Software Asset Management (SAM) by Bhushan Lawate, SAM Head, Crayon Software Experts.

Next up was an insightful and thought-provoking panel discussion on ‘Intelligent Automation – The Game Changer in a Digital Age’, moderated by Kunal Pande, Partner, KPMG India. The power panel comprised A Balaji, Global CIO,UPL Ltd, Goutam Datta, VP– Technology, ICICI Lombard, and Vijay Sethi, CIO and Head CSR, Hero MotoCorp Ltd. The CIOs discussed various use cases and whether robotic process automation (intelligent automation) is really for or against digital-led transformation.

It was then time for another panel discussion, this time on ‘Tax Technology – A Key Enabler to GST’, moderated by Vinay Sethi, Head Market Development – Global Tax, Thomson Reuters. On the panel were Anil Nadkarni, CIO, Mahyco Ltd, Pratap Gharge, Executive President and CIO, Bajaj Electricals Ltd, and Rohan Padhi, Director, KPMG, who discussed the various pain points surrounding GST and solutions available. This was followed by the unveiling of the CIO Power List 2017 Winners Book by some eminent members of the ICT community.

The evening ended with the NTT-Netmagic Digital Innovation Awards ceremony, which saw leading CIOs and ICT leaders from all over the country being recognised for their work in the field.

Innovation management guru Dr Kaustubh Dhargalkar kick-started day two with his informative talk on ‘An Empathic Approach to Innovation’. It gave CIOs a glimpse into how to define their business and innovations from their users’ perspective. Next up was the keynote from Sunil Gupta, Executive Director and President, Netmagic (An NTT Communications Company), on ‘Innovation for the Enterprise’.

Data storytellers Jaydeep Deshpande and Anup Nambiar from Qlik then took to the stage to discuss business analytics and how CIOs could give voice to their data and help drive business. After a break, Dr Pradeep Pendse, Professor and Dean for IT/e-Business/Business Design, Welingkar Institute of Management, spoke about how CIOs could leverage their role and become ‘experience strategists’ to benefit customers and the business. Then, digital guru Abhishek Rungta of Indus Net Technologies took to the stage and revealed the ‘7 Sins of Digital Marketing’ that CIOs would do well to stay away from. This was followed by part two of Dr Nitin Paranjape’s session on ‘Top 10 #CXO Efficiency Best Practices’.

Post lunch was power-packed panel discussion on ‘Charting Your Course in the Age of Digitalisation’, with panel members Anthony Thomas, Group CIO, GE Global and GE Digital, Ajay Kumar Meher, Senior VP and Head – IT, Post Production and New Media, Sony Entertainment Television, Jayantha Prabhu, Group CIO, Essar Group, and Business Head – India, AGC Networks Ltd, and Seema Ambastha, Senior VP – India and Global Business, Netmagic (An NTT Communications Company). The session was moderated by Kunal Pande, Partner, KPMG.

The next session had Dr C Mohan, Founder and CEO, adStringO Software Pvt Ltd, talk about providing digital data management solutions through their digital superhero Shrinkman. This was followed by a talk on ‘Building a Collaborative Workplace’ by Pramod Sharda, CEO, IceWarp India. Next was Neeraj Mediratta, MD and CEO, Ace Data Devices Pvt Ltd, with his informative presentation on ‘Ransomware: Myths versus Reality’. The last session for the day piqued a lot of CIOs’ interest—‘Decoding Cryptocurrency’ with Sanjay Mehta, Investor in Startups and Cryptocurrency. It was then time for an interactive and engaging session with Narpath-The Next Door Mind Reader that had the CIOs glued to their seats.

CIO Crown 2017 wrapped up with a star-studded evening that saw innovative CIOs felicitated for their vision and strategy with the HHH-Healthcare Awards 2017 and IT Genius Awards 2017 presented by CORE Media. The jury consisted of industry leaders Vikas Gadre, CN Ram, Anil Khopkar, and Anil Jaggia.
