5 smartphones launched in September 2017

With smartphones getting impressive new upgrades and cutting-edge features every few months, the Indian smartphone user has been having a grand time. From AR and VR technology to processing power that could rival a mid-level computer, the features available in today’s smartphones prove that this truly is the era of mobile devices. Here are the latest that were launched in September.

iPhone 8

1. iPhone 8
Possibly the reigning king on this list, the successor to the iPhone 7 was unveiled on September 13. While the design structure remains the same, the phone boasts of a number of upgrades and comes in a metal and glass body, in two variants, one with 64 GB internal storage and one with 256 GB. Sporting Qi wireless inductive charging, the phone is powered by an A11 Bionic SoC six-core processor, and an Apple developed A11 Bionic GPU Family 4. The smartphone comes with a 12-megapixel primary camera, a 7 megapixel front camera, and also has touch ID, a feature missing from iPhones until recently. The 4.7 inch display sports a 750 x 1334 pixelsresolution and runs on an 1821 mAh non-removable battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Intended to give stiff competition to the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, smartphone giant Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 8 in September, armed with the Bixby virtual assistant. The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and sports a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels. It is powered by a Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC processor along with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and an internal storage of 64GB, expandable to up to 256GB via a memory card. The dual rear camera setup features Dual Optical Image Stabilisation on two 12-megapixel wide-angle cameras, while the phone also has an 8-megapixel autofocus front camera with an aperture of f/1.7. The phone also supports wireless chargingfor a 3300mAh battery.

Nokia 8

3. Nokia 8
Nokia has made a grand comeback with a range of new Android smartphones that are rich in features. The latest of the lot, the Nokia 8, was launched in September and brings with it a ton of attractive features. Available in Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, Polished Copper, and Steel colour variants, the phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC processor and a 4GB LPDDR4X RAM, with an internal memory of 64GB, expandable to up to 256GB via a memory card. Running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the phone has a 5.3-inch QHD IPS display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels, and protection via 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5. In addition to that, the phone has a dual 13-megapixel primary camera setup, along with a 13-megapixel wide-angle front camera, both of which feature Carl Zeiss lens. The highlight of the phone is the ‘bothies’ feature that lets you take photos using the back and front cameras simultaneously, along with its IP54 rating, which makes it splash proof.

LG Q6+

4. LG Q6+
The LG Q6+ boasts of a number of premium features at a very affordable price.Built ona 7000 series aluminium frame, the phone has a stylish metallic build. The 5.5-inch FullVision display has a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels, while the phone has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, expandable to up to 2 TB via a memory card. Running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, it is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC processor. Besides this, the smartphone has a brilliant 13-megapixel primary rear camera and a 5-megapixel wide angle front camera. The Q6+ is also equipped with a 3000 mAh battery, a face unlock feature, and is available in Astro Black and Ice Platinum colour variants.

Xiaomi Mi A1

5. Xiaomi Mi A1
Xiaomi’s first Android One phone runs on stock Android 7.1.2 and is upgradeable to Android Oreo, with a guarantee of Android P support, when it’s released.The 5.5-inch full-HD display has a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The Mi A1 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC processor, has 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage expandable to up to 128GB via a memory card. The phone sports two 12-megapixel primary cameras, along with a 5-megapixel front camera equipped with real-time beautification mode. Lastly, it has a 3080mAh battery, and is available in Black, Rose Gold, and Gold colour variants.
